Mechatronic system design engineer

Function description

Sequential machine design, in which mechanical parts are typically finalized before electronics or software is being developed, is replaced more and more by concurrent machine design. In this case several sub-components of the machine are developed simultaneously, resulting in shorter overall design cycles. Design methodologies, frameworks and tools need to be developed to support this concurrent design.

With a team of mechatronics experts, you will conduct research on modeling methods for multi-physics systems, with a focus on electro-mechanical systems, and how to use these models during design processes. Optimization techniques have to be used not only to optimize the parameters of a design, but also to generate new configurations of a certain design that are better meeting the requirements put forward for the design. As mechatronic systems are almost always controlled by software, the physical models have to be linked with machine descriptions used in software design. To do so, you will work closely together with experts having a machine software design background.

Next to more theoretical work, special attention will be paid to the implementation of technologies to make them applicable for a variety of industrial systems. You will work in close collaboration with experts from different design teams from our industrial partners and have regular contacts with mechatronics experts from knowledge centres in Belgium and abroad.

Profile

You have an Engineering degree, preferably in mechatronics. You have a broad technical background, including in-depth knowledge of mechanics and modeling methods for dynamical systems, and you are interested in new technologies. You are a result oriented team player with good communication skills. Relevant industrial and research experience is an asset.

We offer

We offer a challenging and varied job with a lot of industrial interactions in an informal atmosphere. A competitive remuneration and benefits package in line with your responsibilities is proposed.
